RESULTS:
Spartan-IV is considered a major success and is now a cornerstone of UEG defense policy and UNSC strategic planning. It has produced a substantial number of super-soldiers capable of exacting the UNSC's efforts at key junctures in the post-war arena, including counter-Insurrection operations and combat missions against Covenant remnants. Large-scale Spartan-IV detachments on expeditionary warships such as the UNSC Infinity have proven to be essential strategic assets, especially given the challenging astro-political landscape.

2020.05.20 11:02 ImperialUnionist Fanmade School

After a month of writing, I have finished the final update for my fanmade school. I hope you'll all enjoy it, and please excuse my mediocre writing.
Currently, I am still fleshing out the characters, but you can read their summary in the link below.
After much editing with my work, this perhaps the final edit for the fanmade school that I made a month ago with my old account Fanmade School
Ronin Academy
Location: Roppongi, Minato City, Tokyo School Theme: French Foreign Legion
Ronin Academy is a French Foreign Legion-themed high school in Girls und Panzer. Due to the diverse culture of the school, they operate WWII tanks from multiple countries.
Overview
Based in Minato City, Ronin Academy is a junior and senior high school. Due to the academy being a public school, enrollees come from different backgrounds. Most students in Ronin Academy are comprised of runaways, abandoned orphans, drop-outs, juvenile delinquents, children of foreign workers, illegal immigrants, those from poor backgrounds due to lack of funds to pay a regular private school tuition, or ex-hikikomoris who search for a second chance at academic and social life.
Due to this, Ronin Academy is an infamous school in Japan, as not only do the students come from the lowest of Japanese society, and school culture is considered quite spartan, but also their Sensha-do culture and tactics is considered rigorous and brutal that some wonder why the Sensha-do Federation would allow such students to participate in Sensha-do. This makes Ronin students disliked and distanced by most students from other High Schools.
However, such harsh school environment is what creates the special bond that all Ronin students have. Even though most have their set of "gangs", the girls from Ronin Academy band together against everyone that looks down on them, due to the idea that they are already abandoned by most of Japanese society. To Ronin Academy students, honour, fidelity, valor, and discipline are the most important traits that every student upholds to. The bond of all Ronin Academy girls is incredibly deep that the entire school is considered a sorority by all students. Though, even with this strong esprit de corps, offensive acts such as bullying, drug abuse, alcohol consumption, smoking, hazing, theft and gang violence is rife within Ronin Academy.
Ronin students are incredibly courageous, disciplined, headstrong, aggressive, but also stubborn and reckless. Students remain faithful to the school's social hierarchy and code of honor in order to keep themselves well behaved, disciplined, and avoid reckless actions. These personality traits are more so followed by the Sensha-do team. Contrary to popular belief, the Ronin Sensha-do team have a Code of Honour that they uphold to religiously:
  1. You are a student of Ronin Academy and a member of its Sensha-do team, serving it with Honor, Fidelity, Valor, and Discipline
  2. Each of your fellow student and teammate is your sister, whatever her nationality, her race, or her religion might be. You show her the same close solidarity that links the members of the same family.
  3. Respect for traditions, devotion to your leaders, discipline and comradeship are your strengths, courage and loyalty your virtues.
  4. Proud of your status as a member of Ronin's Sensha-do team, you display this in your always impeccable uniform, your always dignified but modest behaviour, and your clean living quarters.
  5. An elite in heart, you train rigorously, you maintain your uniform as your most precious possession, and you take constant care of your physical form.
  6. The mission is sacred, you carry it out until the end and, if necessary in the field, at the risk of your life.
  7. With your enemies, you act without passion and without hate, you respect your enemies, and you never abandon your dead, your wounded, or your tanks.
The school is incredibly geared on focusing in Sensha-do, with the sport and the Sensha-do team being highly adored by the students. This high praise for Sensha-do is further ingrained in the school by Kuromorimine drop-outs, which make up about 10% of Ronin's student population.
Students from Ronin Academy are known to be academically incompetent, as almost all students usually repeat a year or two before heading to the next grade level, only to repeat once or twice again. In reality, some repeat their grade years on purpose due to not wanting to leave the Academy and the friends that they bonded deeply. There are some Ronin graduates that work as faculty and staff. About 25% of the staff and 10% of the faculty are Ronin graduates.
Compared to other schools, Ronin Sensha-do recruits have to complete a four week training program, dubbed as "basic training", in order to become a full member of Ronin's Sensha-do team. The four weeks include rigorous physical training, rules, customs, and traditions of the Ronin Sensha-do team, cleaning, familiarity, and maintenance of all tanks and ammunition, martial arts (Mixed Judo and Krav Maga), and learn basic French. After that, trainees are then to finish a 60 mile march, to complete in three days. At the end of this, all trainees are given the Ronin Sensha-do team's white kepi with a black chinstrap, and are given a ceremony to celebrate their membership. Of course, any trainee that fails the training program will not become a member of the Sensha-do team. Failed trainees can enlist again next school year however.
The training program is held only during the summer break, which is why the Ronin Sensha-do team only starts opening enlistment during the end of the school year.
History
Ronin Academy was founded on 1877 by Karl Lorenz, a Swiss Senior Corporal of the French Foreign Legion and veteran of the French Intervention in Mexico and Franco-Prussian War. After France's loss against the Prussians, the 1st Foreign Regiment was sent to be posted on Tokyo, Japan. After fifteen years of service in the Legion, Lorenz remained in Tokyo where he and some other ronin, samurai who have no masters to follow, whom he made friends with during his posting, founded a public school to educate children of the Japanese lower and ronin classes in modern day Roppongi, Minato City.
Uniform
The regular Ronin school uniform is a plain white collared short sleeved jacket with a diamond-shaped Ronin Academy insignia on the left sleeve, an almond-green skirt, a green necktie, a blue sash wrapped around the waste, and green socks. Initially, only the Sensha-do team could wear a kepi, however this was changed. Currently, a white kepi with a black strap is part of the official regular school uniform, however, non-Sensha-do students have no chinstrap on their kepi. Ronin graduates that became a faculty or staff member in the Academy wear their regular uniforms with a green beret.
The Sensha-do uniform consists of a long-sleeved almond-green coat with a diamond-shaped Ronin Academy insignia on the left sleeve worn over the regular school uniform. All Sensha-do members wear a kepi with a black chinstrap, but color of the kepi and strap depends upon rank. Regular crew members wear a white kepi with a black strap, tank commanders have gold straps, while the vice-commander and overall commander of the Sensha-do team wear black kepis with a gold strap.
Tactics and Strategies
War of Attrition was the main initial strategy of Ronin. This brutal strategy however brought mixed results, as heavier firepower was needed. Eventually, years of reforms to make the Ronin Sensha-do tean more flexible but still deadly were adopted. Surround-and-Destroy is the current main strategy of Ronin. It relies on the ferocious discipline, courage, and fidelity that the Ronin Sensha-do team have, while also draining the morale of the enemy. Consisting a mix of Shock-and-Awe and Divide-and-Conquer, such a strategy is simple, however incredibly effective in breaking enemy formations and morale, but also brutal.
There are multiple ways to execute Surround-and-Destroy:
First way is to create a pincer attack on the enemy flanks, these two pincers are mere distractions however, with the main head of the formation rushing in to get into close proximity with enemy armour, which would then break enemy formation and morale, while the flanks envelop as much of the enemy armour. This strategy however is not used when a Sensha-do team is also known for its discipline and heavier firepower.
A Second way is to divide the force by two groups. The first group is meant to find a tactically advantageous position, and prepares a hedgehog defense in order to distract the main enemy formation, while the second group searches for the rest of the enemy formations. Once in contact, they either destroy the enemy or a small detachment is sent to distract them, while the rest of the second group hastily surrounds the main enemy formation that was currently besieging the first group of the force. If the first group finds out that the enemy formation is a distraction force or a small detachment, the hedgehog defense would be abandoned and the enemy formation would be stormed. The second group then rendezvous and unite with the first group. This strategy relies on critical and accurate information, as a single misinformation, misinterpretation, or error of the reports could jeopardize the entire Ronin force.
The Third way is the simplest of the three, the entire force finds a suitably advantageous or open terrain, creating a hedgehog defense around the perimeter, then wait for the enemy to come into contact. The result is a brutal war of attrition, where both sides wear down the other until one side is annihilated or the flag tank is eliminated. Ronin uses this strategy to counter guerilla warfare.
Ronin is known for developing hastily but incredibly effective hedgehog defenses. Even as War of Attrition wore off as the main strategy, it is still in popular use against enemy armour in guerilla warfare.
A controversial tactic that Ronin uses is Tank boarding. A reference to naval boarding tactics, Tank Boarding is used when Ronin tanks are incredibly close to enemy tanks. A crew member or two (usually the loader), leaps off their tank to board the enemy tank in an attempt in taking out its crew members. If successful, the boarding crew either disables the hijacked tank, or captures it to add it for Ronin's match roster. Such tactic is met with mixed results, but its effectiveness makes it favorable for Ronin commanders.
The Camarón Tradition is the breakthrough tactic of Ronin. It is used when the Ronin force is surrounded and desperately force a breakthrough, or when the force is at the brink of defeat and launch a suicide attack towards the flag tank, to hope for a miraculous victory.
Ronin units are divided by three so-called "companies", They are divided according to a specific role. These are namely Alpha Company, the main body of the force and where the flag tank is located, Heavy Company, responsible for breakthroughs and fight heavily armoured units, and Recon Company, responsible for scouting and reconnaissance.

Trivia
• The name of Ronin Academy comes from the term Ronin, a samurai that has lost or has been abandoned by his master.
• Unlike other school ships, which are modeled after aircraft carriers. Ronin Academy's ship is modeled after the French Battleship Richelieu.
• Ronin Academy's Disciplinary Committe is the Sensha-do team itself. Becoming a member of the Sensha-do team first before joining the disciplinary committee is considered an unofficial rule.
• Ronin's disciplinary committee always use draconian measures when punishing students that broke school rules. The most common of disciplinary actions is collective punishment, where all present gangs that currently are in conflict are punished no matter which side initiated the scuffle.
• Ironically, tattoos are against school rules, all members of the Sensha-do team have tattoos themselves.
• Even though possession of firearms and sharp objects are prohibited. Every Ronin student is armed with a simple weapon, such as pocket knives, swtichblades, shivs, and even conceales makeshift clubs to defend themselves against bullies and gangs. Disciplinary committee members meanwhile are armed with baton-shaped bamboo sticks to discipline students, but also posess sharp weapons themselves. There is a popular rumor that some of the Sensha-do members posses firearms.
• Other than the use of draconian force, gang conflicts in Ronin are often solved when members of conflicted gangs become members of the Sensha-do team. This is because the Ronin Sensha-do team is viewed as a single gang itself, and due to its unbreakable esprit de corps and immense power within the school, gangs connected with the Sensha-do team are in a mutual understanding with each other. This is also why the Ronin Sensha-do team's training program is brutal and difficult, in order for students not to take advantage of such special affiliation.
• Most Ronin students are Japanese, however there are large amounts of students that come from different nationalities.
• Ronin students are incredibly sensitive with their kepis, especially the crown portion of it. It is considered a taboo to hold the whole of the kepi, with only the brim being the only part allowed to be held. This is due to white being very sensitive to dirt. Though, even Ronin students with black coloured kepis are sensitive about it as well. There are reports that non-Ronin students recieved broken wrists due to attempts to hold a Ronin student's Kepi.
• Besides their Kepis, uniformity is incredibly strict in Ronin. A student's loss of a piece of her uniform would face consequences by the Disciplinary Committee.
• It is a custom, that if a Ronin student dies by any circumstances, all students sing Chant du Légionnaire Tombė (Song of the Fallen Legionaire) during the burial, with the deceased student's kepi and a Ronin Academy banner placed on top of her casket.
• While known for their Sensha-do team, Ronin's Culinary club are famous for making high quality fancy dishes from numerous cultures and nationalities out of cheap ingredients.
• The Ronin School and Sensha-do uniforms are inspired by the Parade Dress Uniform of the French Foreign Legion. The School uniform is stylized similar to the Legion's Parade Dress Summer Uniform, while the Sensha-do team's is the Parade Dress Winter Uniform.
• Though Ronin has never won the Sensha-do championship once, they are often able to reach the second and third rounds.
• Ronin is known to dominate Tankathlon, under the name "The Pioneers" currently led by Vice-Commander Sang Vân Thi. They use these matches as a part of their training and a way to gain extra funds for the Sensha-do team. Becuase of this, they are in a fierce rivalry against Bonple.
• Ronin can also mean a high school graduate who hasn't entered university, which unironically fits the status of Ronin students as most do not enter into a university after they graduate.
• After graduation, most students either enlist in the French Foreign Legion, Japan Self-Defense Force or other militaries around the world, or become staff members of Ronin Academy.
• The Sensha-do team are known to sing often when there is lack of action during a match.
• Their official motto is "Ronin Patria Nostra", a reference to the French Foreign Legion's "Legio Patria Nostra".
• "March or Die" is an unofficial but another popular motto in Ronin. Which is also an unofficial motto of the French Foreign Legion.
• About a third of the Sensha-do team were former students from Kuromorimine and Bonple. This is a reference of the historically large amounts of Germans and Poles that fought under the French Foreign Legion and the French Army as a whole.
• Becuase many of the students came from different high schools, the Sensha-do team has the advantage of knowing at least a basic understanding of each schools strategies and tactics.
• Ronin has about 30,000 people living on the school ship, with about 9,000 students. Which is a very high student to non-student ratio.

2018.01.11 09:12 RoaminAlien I feel like an Imposter - Let me tell you about myself

I feel like I have to hide my true self/feelings about myself or other people around me(or else they get distressed/overwhelmed/angry/annoyed). I'm angry at the world/humanity/society. However, I feel powerless to change anything. I am a 32 year old straight male. I am looking for the optimal mate, but I alienate everyone around me. I feel a strong desire to curl up into a little ball and disappear (especially when I think about my to-do list). I feel unhappy about my life in general.
I have social anxiety. Sometimes, I feel the urge to run away from people. Sometimes I get so distracted by things going on in my head that I fail conversations/ get awkward / tunnel on one topic. Sometimes, when I get conversations right, I feel good/warm/connected. Most times, I feel like I am being shocked with electricity when others acknowledge me. I might be borderline mentally ill and I think that I have a slight learning disability. I have trouble following verbal instructions or explanations without visual aides. Sometimes, I have been a compulsive liar. I am trying to be something more than I have been in the past.
I am compassionate to people who suffer because I suffer in my own ways. I treat everyone the same. I can be very child-like/naive. I can be entitled and egotistical. Sometimes, when I speak with people, I fail to connect because I can be a terrible listener. After realizing I failed to connect, I feel as if a unique opportunity has passed me by...another wasted potential to bypass the superficial/mundane...to truly connect or find deeper meaning with another human being...I rush into scenarios without thinking at all, then I over analyze things after the fact.
I see all people as an extension of myself, until I see something do them that disgusts/repluses me (selfishness, materialism, superficial, etc) Recently, I have decided that I strongly dislike my brother's girlfriend (she is consistently selfish/mean/double standard) She worships Cersei Lannister from Game of Thrones because Cersei has no remorse for her cruelty. I would be living with my Mom if I wasn't living off of my brother (I have no room to judge anyone).I always keep my feelings hidden, I never let my judgement affect how I treat others. My brother is lovable because he tries to help/care about me. I am unemployed because I see most jobs as slavery to capitalist overlords who are stripping our communities resources. I wont work for anything less than a living wage. I have no professional skills.
I have recently started noticing the urge to explore art in a deepedarker way (poetry, classic lit, art, culture, etc) I have only read a few books(I'm a slow learnereader). Right now, I mostly read non-fiction. I should be studying right now (I get discouraged at my slow pace) to pass CompTIA certifications. I'm not very disciplined. I exercise to prepare myself to take KravMaga Classes(that I cannot afford). I fantasize about being a warrior who uses his own strength to protect others.
I identify with Finn from Adventure time (Although he is more charming/brave/motivated). I wish I was more like Jake from adventure time(or that I had someone in my life similar to jake). I have watched a lot more television than my friends. Shows like Community, Adventure time, Rick And Morty, Many Adult swim/Cartoon network shows, Seinfeld, Mr.Robot, True Detective(season1-first part of season), Gangland, Drugs Inc, Gangland Undercover, Homicide Hunter: Lt. Joe Kenda, Through the wormhole, How the Universe works, Documentary (HBO, Netflix, youtube: Enlightening Channel), many many more. I also like movies (recently many of the movies I like in the past have been ruined by the realization that they feature heavy propaganda)
Feeling sleepy...more later...
Edited (1/12/2018)
My anxiety is more intense, now that I am sober. I fantasize about going to the bar to talk to women, but I get anxiety just thinking about it. How can I blend in if I don't drink/smoke/use anymore? Are there going to be any women in my age group? Does age even matter? Will they be interested in the same things that I am into? Am I attractive enough?
...If only there was a 30 something woman (with the mind power of Noam Chomsky/Naomi Klein/Amy Goodman/Keeanga-Yamahtta TayloJeremy Scahill/Barrett Brown/etc) who would consider being around me for longer than five minutes...
My fantasy usually devolves into sitting in a dark corner hiding from everyone's gaze, watching from the outside. That's what usually happens when I go out.
Here is an anecdote to explain myself: first part of this story is my metaphor for the real life event...to illustrate my anxiety/awkwardness: A 21 Year old woman approached me in the store...
I did a quick dance/jig with my dirty bare feet...then, like performing some type of weird/pathetic attempt at magic trick, I carefully sat down then brought my feet up to my face...grinning and wiggling my gross toes like I thought I was some kind of special foot model...as I showed off the crusty pads of my feet...I proceeded to shove my whole foot into my mouth...but wait I wasn't done yet...there so much more!...I lurched forward in a desperate move to keep my audience's attention...the girl recoiled but stayed to watch out of curiosity...However I sensed that I was losing her...So I quickly jammed my other disgusting stubby foot down my throat...then I pushed really hard with my legs to force my twinkling toes to peek out of my anus... and then furiously tiptoed away in a frenzied panic...all the while saying how it was nice to talk with her...and what was her name again?...as I disappeared into the cool night air like some kind of possessed creature slithering off into the darkness
factual account of events: 21 year old sales associate asked me if I need any help: I have been to this store many other times. I was never asked if I needed help. This made me suspicious that she might be interested if I played my cads right(spoiler...I only played myself...). She had a familiar looking face, so I asked her if we met before. She asked if went to her high school. My anxiety climbed up a small notch to bearable not quite distracting(yet). I asked her when she graduated. She said 2014. I started panicking inside. I thought "She is too young for me", "She wont like you if you mention the age thing". So as usual, I awkwardly tunneled into the age thing. I asked "Are you old enough to work here". She looked betrayed and defended herself by saying that she just turned 21 a few months ago. I realize now, this was another chance. A better chance to learn more about her and connect with her. I could have asked about her birthday party, asked her what her favorite alcohol is, or anything related to college age shenanigans....ANYTHING other than what I did next...but, because I felt like I had a phone battery hooked into my temples at that point, I said that she looks much younger than 21 and that she has a baby face. Then when I sensed her interest levels fading, I said "I'm 32" and that "I feel old"...She politely lied saying I look young...Which was yet another wasted opportunity to transition into something else in the hopes of cutting through the thin yet impenetrable membrane of small talk to find common ground in some deeper meaning of life ... Now I am panicking thinking about drinking, sex, and insecurities related to my failures(I had just come from the gym so I wasn't sure if she thought that I smelled bad)...I got a little light headed...I said something, something..."...Little sis..."...(smh)...It was over. She said let me know if I can help with anything and excused herself to get back to work. Then she went to the front where I had to go to check out. I felt like leaving the items I came for and dashing out of the store... like in League of Legends when people escape by flashing over a wall...No such luck...then out of somewhere, my savior came out to the register....some dude...I was so shaky inside that I made nervous comments about his name...I was reeling and I should have just been quiet...he was not enthused about my comments, but he was polite ...this is where I fucked up...again...I turned to walk out then spun around...I said "girl's name here, right?"...then she said yep...As I walked backwards I said "I live around here, maybe I will see you around, girl's name here...I felt didn't really grasp all this consciously. As I walked away I somehow felt excited that I was able to talk to a girl.

I have friends, but it's only random superficial proximity that brings us together. I am in the process of dumping them all. I'm not dropping them because I have any other options. It's because they add nothing to my life, while drawing significant resources. They are only interested in using me as a prop to their own lives. Now I see how I've made other people feel for most of my life. Between the ages of 13-26, I tried so hard to be a douchey jock prep that everyone likes. Now I am alone on purpose, I try to be a neutral presence in others lives. I just want to help them live their best lives, without getting sucked into their world to be turned into a prop.
In the past, I've hurt people emotionally. I have a bad habit of selling people a version of myself that I think they will love. somewhere along the way, I realize that I can't sustain this facade. I withdraw.
(Edited 1/17/2018) I have spent all day doing nothing. I tried to do some house work and took a long nap. Typical day, until I woke up. One of my friends that I was thinking about dumping texted me in full on panic mode about his girlfriend. I called him and he asked me to keep him company. I got ready to go over to his place by peeling off my sweat drenched bed clothes and put on some dry clothes. I sprayed some cologne and applied some deodorant. When I got to his place he looked calm, so I asked him why he was so worried. He actually convinced himself that it wasn't that bad. It was worse. His girlfriend was breaking up with him and he had no clue. She texted him the break up. She broke up with him so well that he convinced himself that she just wanted space. I told him that in my experience people wont just say "Im breaking up with you". I saw his reply and I felt sad for him. They only dated for a couple months, but he was in love. So against my better judgement, I accompanied him to a bar that I had never seen. I was feeling more confident than usual because I had just gotten a new haircut the day before. We arrived at midnight and I was immediately surprised. Had we just walked into a private party? I felt uneasy to see a small crowd, about 15 or so, chanting and chugging beers. It felt off, like fraternity or sorority vibe, with hipster clothes. I thought hipsters were more laid back, more subdued. These people were loud and chugging beer out of a shoe. I am sober now, so I finished my ginger ale and ask my friend if he liked it there. He wanted to stay. I made some excuse about going to get cup of coffee, but I just walked around the downtown area. I felt a chill from the wind but it was nice. I found some street art. I gazed at it like some art gallery tourist. I tried to follow the details of each mural, as if listening to a play by play of how the mural was created. When I turned to leave, I realized the best mural was behind me. I examined it but it was tough in the low light(the other murals were lit). Then I took a stroll down the street, texting my friend to see if he wanted to leave. He was just gaining the courage to break into the crowd and make a friend. I told him not to worry about me that I was content to walk around. I was mostly, although I would rather have been at home in bed. As I walked a loud man on the street asked me for change. I denied owning any, I only had $5 bill in my wallet. I didn't have anything to give him. I felt like I let him down, the same way I feel complicit in this horrible atrocity of life. Society in general is a lie, a veil which hides the machinery of death and misery, grinding us all up, for the elite few, to feed on our essence. As I walked further, I saw train tracks and I thought about walking down them. Although the tracks were dark and I pictured myself getting stuck in the tracks. I quickly decided to stay on the sidewalk, like a good sheep. I bit further I noticed a park filled with metal sculptures. The shadowy figures in the dark lot were oddly inviting, like the mansion yard from the movie "Edward scissor-hands". As I got closer they looked painted, I was hoping to observe rust pitted metal rotting through. I walked through trying to see anything that struck me. Just wasting time so I didn't have to go back to that bar with those young vibrant people dressed like posers. I guess I am the biggest poser, wearing a button down shirt with jeans and leather dress shoes (I wear them because they are diabetic certified, good arch support and waterproof stitching). Still I felt like I should have been naked. Then maybe I couldn't be an imposter any longer. My fat belly hanging out for the world to see. My painfully average appendage shriveled from the cold. Then maybe people would only judge me for what's inside because the outside is so bland and boring. After my bluetooth headset alerted me of dying battery I walked back to my car. In the car I struggled to find something to keep my attention off of the fact that I just wanted to go home and sleep. I thought about writing some bland unoriginal journal entry, looking for any meaning or shred of depth. Instead I opened an email from a dear friend. This person, whom I have never met and only known for a few months, has impacted my life greatly. This man has shared a great wealth of painful experiences as well as Philosophical and psychological education material. We met on Facebook because he made a comment about an article written by a neoliberal apologist hack journalist trying to make assertions based on cherry picked facts. They purposely left out certain key points that are unavoidable to anyone with "big picture" knowledge of how broken our society really is. My friend summed this up so well that I never tried to tear into that hack journalist. I merely posted a reply thanking him for critiquing the article so well. Then I sent him a pm asking him if he was interested in becoming friends and having talks about society. After he didn't respond, like most people I tried to reach out to, I assumed he wasn't interested in dealing with someone as hopelessly unoriginal as I am. After about month he did reply, and sent a lengthy message discussing philosophical ideals that explain our current societal problems. Tribalism, pragmatism, religion, post modernism, echo chambers, etc. Ever since then we have been allies in the war on authoritarianism, more like defectors sharing stories about potential glory of a utopian world. Zeitgeist the movie meets reality bites. Two old posers talking about shit that will never matter. Dreams that will never be realized. Potential in humanity that is wasted on us. These are the wonderfully disillusioned rants of two like minded hippies. If I was gay, I would probably have fallen in love. Back to the night of abandoning my friend in a strange new bar, I was sitting in the car reading a lovely email from my philosophical friend. I started to feel the need to take notes, carefully reading between the lines to gather insight for personal questions to ask more about his life in a deeper way. My friend came out of the bar and I was interrupted. I quickly started stammering about how I was fine, that I was having a great time looking at the new murals and the art in the dark. At first, it was obvious that he didn't believe me. Finally he gave up trying to finish his cigarette and we pulled off. He started talking about his girlfriend and I just started hammering him with reality. I told him again and forcefully, "stop, she broke up with you. she doesn't want to see you anymore. Don't try to force her to break up with you in person." He noticed some graffiti and we stopped to get a picture of him next to it. In hindsight, this could be seen as an act of trespassing by whomever tagged the place. At the time, it didn't occur to me. Then on the way out I drove by the murals to show him what I was doing. He thought I was pouting and being weird, but then he saw that I was just walking around getting lost in the sights. We drove around looking for a place to eat, the whole time he was gushing about how much he wants to try to be there for her. I mean, maybe he is right, maybe she is unique. She didn't take down the relationship status, so maybe I was wrong. I don't know much about women. I do know that each woman is different, just like each man is different. Sure we all have some mannerisms in common, but maybe he was right about her. By the time, he finished eating I had convinced him that is was over for him. That he should just cry it out and then heal up. Move on. I still don't know what the outcome was. I went home and crashed. I am codependent.

I'm 32 and I've never had to work (although I have held jobs in the past). I got lucky when I was born into my middle class family, my ambitious hard-nosed father scrimped and saved to put me through college that I flunked, paid for my house that I never took care of, and left me some type of inheritance that my mother doles out when I need it. Sure I've done some things on my own. When I was high school, I saved almost all of my money to put into investments with my fathers family account(he matched every dollar Invested). The stocks split and I suddenly doubled my money. Then another stock split and I quadrupled my money. However, it was in a retirement account. When I was 27 I took all my things and moved to a town with a college. I used 12,000 in a month, got my own place(without a job and in a bad part of town), then ended up in the intensive care unit for almost 2 weeks. The house wasn't ready to move in, but I did anyway. There were spiders everywhere. So I went out and bought some home defense bug spray. I had a seizure when the paramedics came to my house. I never made it in that town. I moved back home defeated and half of my life savings was gone. I just wanted to get a job, go back to school and make something of myself. Now I'm 32, I just flunked out of my only class last semester. I am taking free online courses, but my family's patience is wearing thin. I only recently got sober. Getting sober didn't change who I am, it just made me a little more stable. That person is right. I am entitled unoriginal white trash and I've known it from the start. However, they don't realize that I have posted many similar things on Facebook under my real name and real pictures. I have shown the world my nosebleeds and my privileged unoriginal inner thoughts. I know that it will haunt me in the future for jobs and reputation (most of those types of posts I made were right after I quit doing drugs and drinking). Every time I look in the mirror I see what they see. People in my real life tell me different, but it feels like they lie just to make me feel better. Ever since I can remember, since I was as young as I can recall, I've hated everything about life. Even as a child, I suffered depression and anxiety, self mutilation, rage, thoughts of suicide, etc. My parents thought I was possessed because I would stand atop the stair and wait for them. Then right as they were about to save me, I would smirk and throw myself down the broad steps. As a young teen I stuffed my face into books like goosebumps and other popular kiddie fiction of the time. I got bullied a lot, so I stopped reading, I started getting angry and lonely. I had friends but I felt like an imposter among imposters. I didn't want to acknowledge it or myself. I tried to fake my way in and it worked. I started acting/dressing like a popular skater douche, I grew my hair out. People bought it, I never even had to learn to skate. I hung out with skaters, smoked weed, drank alcohol, played sports. I hated all of it. I wouldn't allow myself to read classic literature or poetry. I convinced myself that feelings were for girls, I completely bought into the idea of feminized masculinity sold by Hollywood. I tried to keep myself down, until I took African American literature. I read malcolm X's autobiography, I smoked even more weed than before. I read some of Will Durant's history of civilization. I thought I was starting to see society for what it really is. Then I heard DemocracyNow over public radio after I moved to New Jersey. I started to see people working to solve real problems. I never took action. Sure I called my senators and representatives, but I never went to a protest. I never took meaningful action. I have never been able to reach outside of my crippling selfishness, my depression that has no reason to exist. Yet I am in a constant struggle to not be depressed. The reason I was in New Jersey was that my (now ex-)girlfriend moved there for work. Of course, I invited myself along, altering the course of her young professional life. I was an angsty oversized, man-child, I completely sold her a fantasy of myself, the hero that will make something of himself. I robbed her of those years we were together. I should never have attached myself to her, should have never even bothered her or any other woman. Every single relationship I have ever had has been a total farce, sure there were good moments. That doesn't make up for the way they all ended, ghosting them, or crashing and burning (I used to have an explosive anger problem).

I think I might be sexist, Am I sexist?
This is my gut reaction to WHY DO WOMEN WEAR SANDALS AND OPEN TOE SHOES IN THE RAIN?HuH? - https://answers.yahoo.com/question/index?qid=20080509123540AATuvvR
I dislike how women(everyone) put style over function. They adapt their behavior patterns to make up for poor function(in this case poor choice in flip flops making people avoid puddles). The real problem is one of support. Over time poor footwear support can lead to all kinds of health problems. Not to mention that most women get cold easier than men. When women decide to wear open toe footwear or skirts, they make men (who dress with function in mind i.e. closed toe shoes and pants) suffer through hot conditions, just so they wont be as cold. Wear warmer clothes if you are always cold.

Questions Answers
Are there bragging rights from missions? For example, does the guy who shot Bin Laden have lifetime bragging rights? There are some bragging rights, mostly it's just for the new guys to look up to the older guys that have "been there, done that" but no one really speaks openly about what they've done. Mostly stories are shared by dudes talking about stories from their deployments and then it's all friendly. No one bashes the other for what they have or have not done. But new guys are not to be loud mouths.
I don't think that guy brags about what he did, I think everyone on that mission feels like they were of equal part in killing Bin Laden. After all, without the other guys, the trigger would not have been pulled. That being said, I do think some of the guys are a little jealous that they didn't have Bin Laden in their cross hairs.
Im not asking for a name or anything like that. But do you and the other SEALS know who actually shot Bin Laden? Like is it an internal joke or something? It's not a joke at all, but it's just some pride. Honestly, I don't know who did it, but I have narrowed it down a little to a few guys that I know of.
I remember reading that most of the team involved with the Osama mission were killed when their helicopter was shot down a short while after? They were not the part of the team that was directly inserted in the Bin Laden Raid.
Thank you for your service sir. If you are are religious, God bless. If not, you have my sincerest gratitude. I'm not, but thank you for your kind words :)
Would you say the M4 is the best platform to use? I have read and heard, since the m16 was used in Vietnam, that the 5.56 just does NOT have the stopping power that there needs to be. Of course marksmanship accounts for much of the effectiveness of firefights, but stopping power is surely almost as important. Nobody is going to have perfect accuracy in high-stress environments. So would you prefer a different weapon to use? The M4 system is a good system to run, but it has it's flaws. It's not stupid-proof, nor is it soldier-proof. It needs to be well taken care of all the time. You can run it for a few thousand rounds before it clogs up but with a bunch of dirt and moisture to that, you will need to clean it because of the tight tolerances of the system. This is where the AK platform shines, though I'd prefer the M4 more as I'm so used to it and I take well care of it. I've never had a serious malfunction in a serious combat environment, maybe I'm just lucky!?
We do get issued a variety of weapon systems, mostly with the same platform design as the M4. The H&K 416 is the name of the game for now. You can look up a ton of information of it on the internet if you want to know more about it. This system I like a lot, it's nearly the perfect version of an M4, though it could be a little more light weight. Still, the newly upgraded M4 platforms we use are very well made.
The impact of a 5.56 is not as good as other rounds on human flesh. It does the job when it comes to shorter barrels like the M4, with a 14.5 inch or 10.5 inch barrel, it just doesn't reach the velocity of a longer M16's barrel. Against body armor it will still penetrate with the lower velocity. It's not perfect, and there are many other rounds out there that are better but it's not as much of an issue as people may think nowadays. It's now common practice to shoot multiple rounds into a target to take it down, due to this round, but it works well enough.
I was reading Black Hawk Down and it talked about how they needed to shoot a guy like 4 or 5 times before he even felt the effects because most of them were fucked up on drugs in Somalia. Yes, that's tough when they are doped up, that still occurs regularly too. The reason that most of them had such a problem is because they used full length M16's rather than shorter M4's and so the ballistic properties of the 5.56 round will be different. Instead they will often cut right through since the velocity is so high, where as an M4 will tumble more because the velocity is lower.
Have you had a chance to use any of the new 300 blackout weapon systems? I haven't used any of the Blackout stuff, but I am interested!
Do you all regularly use suppressors, and if so which models? Sor suppressors we use them as needed. Then we've used KAC, H&K, AAC and a few more that I'm probably forgetting. It's a lot to keep track of sometimes and when things are painted you cant read the labels.
I've seen the specials of training on TV and while watching I think to myself, "I could probably do that". Not really a question, but thought it might make you laugh. Would you agree that training is more mental than physical or must you have great conditioning? They say that training is 10% physical, 90% mental. You can have amazing conditioning and still drop because you're not mentally strong enough. On the other hand, you can have average(for a BUD/S trainee) conditioning and make it through because you're mentally strong. Everyone has to be fit, and that's at a high standard, but only the mentally strong will make it through. Though, some people are mentally strong and don't make it, they just decide that it's not for them, they'd rather do something else. There's no shame in that, being a SEAL is not for everyone, just like being a Lawyer is not. I know I'd be a shit lawyer if I tried... Great conditioning is a must anyways.
Answer how you like, but do you have teammates that have backgrounds that surprised you, in that it is not typical of a Navy Seal? Every SEAL is different. I knew a guy who was a waiter, just as another SEAL was a manager for a high end restaurant before they got in. Then there are those who were hunters, farmers, even one guy who's hobby was dance! One guy was a successful computer programmer, that's probably the most surprising one I know of since I have some old high school IT friends.
If you can remember, how would you say your outlook on life changed before and after the SEALs? My outlook on life has changed, I am more mature. Even if I'd grow like that with any other career choice, I don't think it would be the same outlook as I have now. I have greater respect and greater love for others now. Though, I think that I've learned to display my love better for people. I am in greater health than I've ever been and I am all around happy about things. I used to be really depressed and miserable throughout high school.
What hobbies do you do for fun? For fun I like to go shooting, but I do that so much that during my actual free time at home I just like to spend it with the family, doing whatever random and fun things that is available to do. I love playing music on my guitar and I love listening to music.
What is your favorite ice cream flavor? My favorite ice cream... Tough one... I like good old vanilla, but almost any flavor is good. Though my absolute favorite must be my grandmothers old raspberry ice cream made of home grown raspberries.
Did you go into the Navy straight out of HS? I joined out of high school. It's more than I could have imagined, in a good way as well as a bad way. I hate running, and as you can imagine, there's a lot of running to be done. I'm also scared of deep dark water, so that's a fear that I have to face often and it doesn't go away! Disappointment would be to be unable to spend time with my family, but that was expected. Not much of a surprise, but the brotherhood is amazingly tight, and I love that.
Is being a SEAL what you thought it would Be? Any surprises or disappointments? I've deployed to Iraq 3 times, Afghanistan 7 times, both nations for combat deployments. We get deployed to other spots around the world for shorter deployments, mostly to train with others or do some missions with those nationals.
Have you deployed to Iraq, Afghanistan or some other hot spot? How many times? Morale within the Teams is good I suppose. I don't know about other units as well but it seems that most have good morale. Often morale will drop after someone has been killed, but you block the majority of those feelings until you get back home. Though, depending on where you're at during your deployment and who you're with, and what happens, morale tends to be stable most of the time.
How's morale? Are we wearing our service members down? I can only speak for the Teams in saying that our morale is usually pretty high, but shit happens.
Do you think you have gained any real world benefit from being a SEAL? As in from a job in the civilian world or do you plan on being a career soldier? Well, I've grown a lot over the years, and there are a lot of benefits to be had from my experience as a SEAL. I am more grown up and able to perform much better than I can imagine that I would without this part of my life story. Though, all of the skills that I have been taught cannot be directly converted into a civillian career, there are many things that I'l be able to do.
For now, I feel like staying in for a while longer. Afterwards I would like to further my work in the military gear sector. Maybe design a few things for some companies, but I have no real dream of making my own gear company as of now. It would also be nice to start some tactical shooting program, but there are a ton of those out there right now I don't think it would be so easy to contribute something new to that field. I would like to be a bigger part of my family, to grow my family and to be a father. I'm not too worried about a job now, I place family first if I were to end this Navy gig.
Though, I think my calling is within military sectors of work, so I'll probably stick to that as a civillian. For that I am very well qualified!
I'm interested in the military and I am a competition swimmer for my high school. Would this give me a leg up in anything that the seals might do in the water or is it all easy? Most important thing about being in the water is the ability to swim, obviously. Now that you've got that down, it's important to be able to keep calm under water without oxygen, in a stormy environment and being unable to see. Being able to hold your breath without panic is basically the essence of things. It's not really easy, even Navy Divers that have been diving for years have had trouble when it comes to 2nd Phase(Diving Phase) of BUD/S. Actually, I think that in the book The Warrior Elite by Dick Couch, there is a number of good stories about just this training. You should definitely read this book along with the rest of the series by Couch if you're interested in the training and real world application of SEALs.
It's never easy, but if you are able to keep calm and keep yourself checked you will be able to focus on your job even if the water is freezing. Discipline is key to success, and as always, keep training.
So like what is the minimum time I should be able to hold my breath fo swim underwater We always try to improve, but I remember BUD/S limit was around 2 minutes. This was not strictly enforced in my time there, but the instructors will know if you're not cutting the limit. Later on you find out that the longer you can hold your breath, the better. But if you can hold it for at least 2 minutes then you're good to go for now. Now they've added 3 more months of pre-BUD/S training instead of the older 2-week Indoc, so they'll push you enough to reach further with all aspects of training before you get to BUD/S. Good luck.
I can hold my breath for 2 under water... And what is BUD/S? BUD/S stands for Basic Underwater Demolition/SEAL training. It's the 6 months of basic training to become a SEAL. Though, you have to go through SQT(SEAL Qualification Training) after BUD/S to get your Trident, and you're not a SEAL until you get the Trident.
Yes! I can hold my breath for 3:14! :D. )
Thank you VERY much for your service! Is there any way to put into words or accurately articulate how difficult SERE school was? Everyone wants to know about SERE it seems!
As expected, it's a hard ass phase to go through, but it's extremely important and there are things you will learn that you will never forget. There's a reason why this training has sticked into the system. The worst part is the capture and torturing parts. Of course, they cant seriously torture you while you're there but they'll do some milder forms and keep a good eye on things. They need you to hurt, but they wont kill you or disable you for anything. The best part about it is knowing that it is not real, that it will end, and that they cannot do what you might expect in a real life situation. Those are also some bad parts about it since in the real world situation, it's much much worse and we know it. If we were to be captured by Taliban we would have a much different fate than our fathers would by being captured by Soviets in that time. The training is just getting tougher and tougher for good reason.
Do they waterboard you in SERE school or are you not allowed to answer that? If not, do they do things that are considered more difficult to go through than water boarding? The SERE I went through did waterboarding, but you have to be very careful with that not to kill the person. We're all comfortable with water and can hold our breaths but being strapped down and angled makes it tougher. I don't know if all SERE programs allow this though. They also do hot and cold water torture, as well as A LOT of yelling and insults. It's not too bad, but it's not fun either.
Is waterboarding better or worse than what the media makes it out to be? Would you consider it a form of torture? Thank you for your service! I think some media may take it completely out of proportion but it sure is torture. Just try it out and see, it's absolutely a form of torture. Of course, there are a ton of things you can do to a person that are worse.
Elaborate? What do you want me to elaborate on?
What's the most badass story you're legally allowed to tell? It will take me hours to write it down ;)
Pleeeeeaaaseeeee??? That will violate OPSEC rules. Sorry to disappoint.
I'll be back in two hours. Will it be down then? I don't think so, I should probably not be talking about stuff like that online.
Did you see Act of Valor? If so, how accurate is the portrayal of the tactics, bond, attitude and what not of the SEAL team? I have seen it and I feel like it was a little rushed through. Also, it would have been good to add some aspects of BUD/S to see why the bond is strong rather than being thrown in there with the bunch of guys. Otherwise, it was pretty accurate, but you have to move differently for the cameras and you have to adjust to all of that stuff so it's not exactly the same.
What would you say is the most accurate movie you've seen? Act of Valor, but nothing will be as accurate as it really is. Act of Valor is a little flawed, to be honest.
What is the most badass thing you have ever done? Surfing a nuclear submarine takes the cake.
Story time. When boarding a submarine we once did it only in the Khaki swim trunks issued to us as well as some dive gear we threw in the Zodiac, which was not in the pictures. We took turns to stand on the submarine as it was moving along doing surf poses on top of it while taking pictures. It's a common SEAL thing to do, which dates back to the first SEALs so it's not too special, but it was our time to do it and we did.
I feel like that's how you win any bar story pissing contest. Instant trump card. Yeah, it's good, especially with picture proof :)
Thank you. I'm currently a junior in college but I'm seriously feeling out of place right now and my grades are showing it. I was always interested in the military but I let my parents and my at the time girlfriend convince me to go to college directly instead. Also, I'm studying languages in college. Can you give me any specifics of what translating for the military would be like? I'm sure they always need translators. Translators are always a must in the military. But I don't know exactly what that is like. We tend to stick to those with a local background so they are more "at home" with the locals. I'm sure you can do more political work when it comes to translations in the military. Like working with ambassadors to other nations.
If you do enlist and later finish up school, you are most likely able to receive benefits from the GI Bill so they'll pay for you to go to school. It's always a plus if you do really feel like you want to be a part of the military machine.
Just how difficult is Hell Week? That's a tough question to answer... I guess that the best answer I have for that question is that I would absolutely hate to have to do it again. It's a real kick in the balls, if your entire body was a testicle; that is it.
How exactly did you become a navy seal? Obviously you entered the Navy, but how did you manage to get involved as a SEAL and not be handed another different duty? How did the navy not just take you and force you on kitchen duty after you joined? You ask your recruiter to get into the pipeline to apply for BUD/S and so I did got accepted right out of Boot(some Sailors don't since BUD/S is very sought after). Otherwise you have your papers filled out for a secondary MOS in which you would start doing that job until a spot in BUD/S opened up for you. Or if you fail BUD/S you will be sent off to that secondary MOS.
Hey, I find it pretty awesome and interesting that you are so open about this kind of stuff! I also have some questions: Did you ever get shoot at? How does it feel to kill? Is real life action anything like in videogames/movies? Thanks! I'll be blunt as I've got a lot of questions to answer.
I have been shot at, it's not fun, but it's adrenaline pumping and it's an amazing feeling once you get over the fear aspect.
Killing someone has already been discusses, but it's sickening.
I don't play video games, but I do know that if we get shot we don't re-spawn on the other end of the game map. Movies make everything seem romantic and glorious, it's not.
How proficient are you in hand-to-hand combat? Is there a particular style taught? I've trained in Krav Maga and some say it's used by SEALs, but I don't know the validity of that. I have been taught Krav Maga, as well as a bunch of different styles, don't even remember most of them. We pick and choose certain parts to make our skills quick and easy to perform, and practical for military use. I guess that I am proficient enough to take down anyone besides a good MMA fighter, if that answers your question.
On that note, do you feel confident in your ability to end a fight with random civilians? I know it's a weird question and I don't mean to frame you as cocky or arrogant, but I know from my own training my confidence in dealing with such confrontations is higher, not to say I'm invincible either. I guess what I'm asking is if you view random guys in a baon a street as non-threatening due to the nature of your job and training? I do feel confident enough to end a fight like that, or be a part of a fight like that even. I don't think any SEALs will promote such fights, but we can sure end them.
Sidenote, recommend a good knife? I like Benchmade knives, Stryder, Gerber and SOG. They're so common and well made, but some cost more than others.
Do you have a favorite knife? What knives do SEALs carry/like these days? I carry a SOG SEAL Pup, which I guess it pretty obvious :P It's a good knife and serves me well. I also always carry a Gerber multitool as well as a knife that I think is a Benchmande, the one that shoots the blade straight out, but it's not a ballistic knife, it sticks to the handle. Anyways, it's the "killing knife" if I have to use it.
Also, do you know Kyle Defoor? I'm taking one of his classes this summer. Also, I've worked with Defoor, he's a great guy and good luck with the classes. He's a great guy with a lot to teach!
Thank you for a response and all the best!!! Stay safe. You too man ;)
How good at unarmed hand-to-hand combat are SEALs? We are good, we can perform in a realistic environment with tactical and practical performance. We are not like MMA fighters you see in the UFC, however.
How much training is devoted to unarmed vs armed combat? Have you done a lot of boxing, grappling (BJJ?), etc? We spend more time with arms of sorts, but we do devote a good deal of time to perfect our hand to hand combat skills, as well as fighting with various weapons including your hands at the same time. Boxing is definitely something that's needed, as well as different grappling.
What is your favorite vehicle or favorite insertion technique? 2) Favorite insertion technique is HALO/HAHO, obviously. Favorite vehicle is the old DPVs but they're not really that good to use tactically, though they're just a ton of fun!
What skills (either combat or non-combat) are you proud of that you only have because you are a SEAL? What skills (either combat or non-combat) do you wish you were better at? That's all for now (I don't even know if you're still going). Thank you for your time and your service. 4) Sniper skills, that's what every sniper will say, for good reason. It's really that noticeable.
Once you are on a team that is deployed, is ever operator at a somewhat equal level in terms of performance of general skills, or are some people noticeably better than others? 5) I wish that I was a better runner, I hate it when others pass me on the runs.
When on deployment, how do you communicate with your family? I'm assuming OPSEC is a major concern. 6) It's pretty equal, we all have our certain skillsets that makes us better than the others, but you're only as good as your weakest man, so we strive to be better at everything. We need to otherwise we will not survive, so it's pretty equal when we actually get going.
If you hadn't devoted this time to our country, what would you have like to been doing now? 7) I think that I would have been a therapist, just to help people out while talking to them, I've always been good at that.
8) OPSEC is a concern, but you try to stay away from everything there and focus on the lives of your family. So we don't discuss anything military related unless they bring it up. It's not so difficult. But we do communicate via web chats and video chats, or on the phone.
Have you ever had anyone on you team that was a sociopath, someone that could kill and be totally unaffected? Well, being a sociopath does not mean that they will kill and such, but no. I know of people who are nearly unaffected by it but at the end of he day we still don't enjoy killing.
Are there strong rivalries between the SEALs and other special op forces like Delta Force? Yes and no, we do share our work and there's a lot of fun stuff that happens but we strive to be better than they are, and they strive to be better than us.
What technology could be used to improve survival/life/effectiveness etc. as a seal? (better radio, better night vision, quadcopters?...) There's so much technology that's just breath taking because it's so good, but there's always room for improvements. As you will know, radios will often have problems around dense vegetation, as will GPS systems. That could be worked on. Radios can be a true key to success since it furthers the communication throughout the team, which is golden.
But all in all, I'd want some armor plates that were much more light weight with still a good ballistic rating, that's technological right!? I'd love way to decrease the kits weight, although that's been a goal for long and making real progress, there's still work to be done.
Great AMAA! I know you said you hate running, but how fast can you run 4 miles (or any specified distance) now? and when you started BUD/S? I went through this in another comment, but for 3 miles.
When I started BUD/S we just did the beach runs so that slows you down. I was nearly always across the line at 30 minutes during 1st Phase and the cut off is 32 minutes. That I was proud of! It always increased form there, at my peak I could run 4 miles in 23.24 on sand. Which is pretty damn amazing to me. SOme guys are just a shit ton better though. But as always in BUD/S you're going to be tired all the time and your scores will slip.
Are you single or married? I have a girlfriend, but I am not married.
If you are married, how hard is being a SEAL on your relationship and what do you and your wife do to cope? It's hard to deal with it, but you let them into your life as much as you are able to. That means that you take them in base to talk, and be with the other wives.
If you are single, do you think it'd be much harder to be a SEAL if you were married? I think it's difficult to be married and be single as a SEAL. Though I think the hardest part is to have a girlfriend, even if I've never been married. Marriage is more locked in, you cant just walk away as you can with a girlfriend.
Also how hard is it being away from your friends/family in general? It's not too hard to be away, you get used to it. Of course you miss them but since I don't have kids and all, I miss my girlfriend the most, and being away from parents and siblings is just a part of being older.
What do you think about women in combat? How do you feel about the new assessment and restrictions being lifted? If they can stand up to it then cool, but if they're lagging behind then hell no. There are women out there that are able to perform like males can perform in warfare, and lets face it, war is more of a male thing anyways. But if they can do it, good for them.
Did you join to be a SEAL right away, or did you have another job first? What's your favorite training or skill you've received as a SEAL, or the navy in general? Is your job ever boring? What kind of "red tape" have you encountered that prevented you from being able to do your job, and how do you guys work around this? I did join to be a SEAL. My favorite skill is probably lock picking :P Just kidding, I don't know, there are so many things that I love to do, but I think the greatest thing has been the development of my mind throughout this time in the Navy. It does get boring sometimes, like waiting to go on a mission. Sometimes planning or post op briefs are just a pain in the ass. We don't do every operation if it's not in our favor, so to speak. So we move to do everything that we can to promote our position in the battlespace. I hope that helps, I am a little unsure of what that last question is asking.
Is there a name for that? I don't remember any specific name, I've never cared to ask about it but of course there is, there's a name for everything...
What teams have you been on? If you're allowed to say that is. Also do you work with/know any seals that were originally in other branches first? I'm in the AF right now but would like to reenlist into the navy to get to buds. I knew a guy who was a Marine that transitioned over to the Navy to go through BUD/S. But that's not too common.
I'm now a part of ST3 and have been for a long long time.
Are you always mobile (daily things, not during missions or training, etc)? Do you have a certain base you have like a bedroom? Can you run through a typical day to the best of your ability? And what is opsec and persec? It's always something new, we go from place to place to train with others and in new places. Even during deployments we can move about a country if needed.
A while ago I read an interview with a security contractor where he outright stated that most men in the military are outright sociopaths. Would you agree with this statement? No, unless we were talking about the attitude of inexperienced Marines. They just have that "GET SOME" mindset but that fades after they've actually been there, done that. So it's not that they are serious sociopaths, but they have an attitude like it. When Marines have been on a tour and know what's up, they are good guys.
Thanks for your service man!! Hopefully I've unknowingly bought you a beer at hk, after all, you boys deserve it!! But I've done a lot of work over there and I am glad to have woken you up in the mornings :P.
Don't know if you're still answering...but what was the hardest part, for you, of BUD/S? Did doubt ever creep in? Hardest part of BUD/S is waking up in the morning, honestly. Doubt did creep in to be honest, but I think it's natural. Those that say that it didn't are probably full of shit or they don't remember it at all, which is valid too I guess.
How is your personal life; are you married or the like? I've heard there's a high rate of divorce for active duty operators, but I was always curious how real people, and not statistics, handled it. I'm not married, and never have been. Divorce rate is pretty high, but some stick through it. It's tough but the SEALs still have jobs to do so you just let the girls go and push for the best while doing their jobs.
How do you rate your British Counterparts? The SBS? Have you worked with them, or in general what do you think of the British Army? Also, I have a tremendous amount of respect for you. I like the Brits, they are fun, loving, and cheered characters. They have a good sense of humor and I like that a lot. The SBS are good troops, they are probably the most closely related force besides the KSK in that they operate under the surface of the water.
In your experience, how would the teams react if asked to perform duties that contradict their oath? How would the teams react if for instance the US was placed under martial law? I guess what I am trying to ask is how would you deal with overwhelming evidence of corruption and conspiracy? I think most SEALs would flat out refuse to act if that was the case. Of course that's easy to say now, but I do believe that's the basic way it would go.
