How much roaming do I get? Is it really 200 MB per billing cycle?

2020.09.30 16:01 runQuick How much roaming do I get? Is it really 200 MB per billing cycle?

According to T-Mobile (no need to click as I've pasted the relevant text below in this post), there is 200 MB of domestic roaming data per billing cycle.
I have the T-mobile Essentials plan.
The reason why I'm asking is, the phone in question is in Anchorage, Alaska where there's almost no T-Mobile reception so it's always on roaming. That phone received a warning from T-Mobile saying that if it continues to roam, T-Mobile will cancel the phone.
So here are some questions, for that phone in Alaska, is there a way I can pay for more data roaming (according to the T-Mobile rep I spoke to who was not helpful, there is no way to add more roaming and he also said that roaming doesn't exist and that I should switch to another carrier in Alaska)? And is it really 200 MB per billing cycle because I thought I read somewhere that if most of your usage is roaming for 4 consecutive months, it's against T-Mobile policy so I'm very confused at how much actual roaming there is.
How much domestic roaming data do you get?
Recent postpaid plans (On or after 11/15/2015)
If you have one of our more recent postpaid plans from the last few years (all Magenta plans, T-Mobile Essentials, all T-Mobile ONE plans, or a Simple Choice plan activated on or after November 15, 2015 - both voice and mobile Internet), then you have 200 MB of domestic roaming data per billing cycle.
Preferred roaming partners
T-Mobile has two classifications of domestic roaming networks based on the agreement we have in place with each partner, standard and preferred.
In some parts of the US, preferred partners may provide additional courtesy data beyond the amount included in your rate plan while domestically roaming; standard partners do not. If roaming on a preferred partner network, you may continue to receive data at 2G speeds or higher until you return to a T-Mobile coverage area, begin roaming in another area covered by one of our standard network partners, or begin the next bill cycle. This additional amount of data is provided as a courtesy and is determined by the individual partnership, varies across network partners, and may change or even be removed at any time.

Just a reminder that Alaska hospital data is now being sent to the CDC, who in turn sends it back to Alaska for use on our own dashboard. This is perfectly normal. It's fine. VERY bigly normal behavior.
I'm serious, it's super normal that the federal agency who doesn't have the balls to keep guidance up about airborne transmission, must receive our hospitalization data and send it back to us before the state of Alaska can use it on the Dashboard.
Here's more on this nonsense

2020.09.24 03:39 Infinite_Tourist DataHub Updates from Alaska DHSS

Source
COVID-19 Data Hub updates
On September 23 the following changes were implemented on the DHSS COVID-19 data hub to the hospital and testing dashboards:
Hospital dashboard
Previously, the Alaska State Hospital and Nursing Home Association (ASHNHA) collected data for the hospital dashboard directly from facilities through a bed survey and provided it to DHSS for reporting on the data hub. Hospitals will now report their patient and bed data directly to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention through the HHS Protect TeleTracking system, and DHSS will use that data for the hospital dashboard. This new way of reporting will allow hospitals to more efficiently respond to required data reporting changes while continuing to report their patient and bed capacity numbers.
All general acute and critical access hospitals will be reporting through TeleTracking as of September 23. During the transition, the bed capacity numbers and COVID-19 confirmed and under investigation hospitalizations will not be updated on September 23 but will reflect data reported on September 22. Data reported on September 24 will be based solely on TeleTracking and reporting on the hospital dashboard will resume as usual.
Other changes include:
Testing Dashboard
Changes were made to the coding that assigns the geographical location to tests. This was done by reviewing the nearly 30,000 results that were listed as ‘geography unknown’ to better analyze patterns in the data and determine the facilities at which these specimens were collected for testing. The coding changes have now allocated these previously unknown tests to the physical location where medical care was provided, and have decreased the tests with unknown geography from approximately 30,000 to about 7,500. The text in the FAQs and methods documents remains accurate and geography is assigned based on the physical location of the ordering providethe patient care encounter.
This change will result in an increase in tests assigned to different geographical areas with Anchorage, Northwest Arctic Borough, Kodiak and Cordova/Valdez Census Area seeing the biggest differences. This will also result in changes to testing percent positivity for those regions.

2020.09.17 00:21 Graceflower ASD’s new plan

Dear ASD Families,
As we are experiencing a decrease in a case counts across Anchorage since the spike of COVID-19 in July, ASD has begun its planning for the next phase of schooling if a transition to school becomes possible. The Center for Disease Control (CDC) and the American Academy of Pediatrics (AAP) support the return of students to in-school education if the health and mitigation conditions permit. We know our community is experiencing the pandemic differently; therefore, we are taking this time early on to address your needs and questions.
ASD has learned and will continue to learn a great deal about COVID-19. We are confident that while we cannot eliminate the virus, we can effectively mitigate its spread using the most up-to-date information and best practices from the medical and science experts from around the world. ASD commits to meeting daily to assess the safety concerns and present conditions in our schools and community.
The District’s plan is in concert with guidelines set forth by the CDC, AAP, the State of Alaska, the Municipality of Anchorage and others. Additionally, District leadership has consulted both local and state health officials and has incorporated their input into its planning. Please look to our website for the detailed information on the guidance resources.
While the rolling average case count has been and remains a key piece of information in determining whether school should be held in person or online, the CDC and AAP suggest it should not be the only factor in determining reopening of school buildings. Rather, this data point is a start for a holistic decision-making process which must consider a host of other factors that assist in understanding the nature of the community spread. Additionally, it helps to provide a more accurate threat assessment for our students and staff. These factors include, but are not limited to:
The specific nature of the community virus transmission The District’s ability to mitigate virus spread through robust safety protocols The District’s sanitization procedures The District’s response plan when someone gets sick ASD’s plan considers other risks for which the American Academy of Pediatrics has evidenced in regard to students’ wellbeing when school is not open for face-to-face classes:
The impact on social-emotional needs The impact on behavioral and mental health The absence or reduction of critical services (e.g. school lunch programs, special education services, after-school programs, mental health services) Of note, ASD has revised its plan of utilizing a 50 percent, hybrid model in lieu of new Harvard research which suggests that hybrid models may actually increase the viral spread. Further analysis by the District also suggested that the hybrid model would be overly complicated for families, would create higher workloads for staff, and would present significant challenges for busing. As a result, the District’s revised plan includes one medium-risk plan in which students attend school five days a week for 5.5 hours each day. We are in the process of balancing our class sizes to keep the class counts as low as possible.
Re-Entry Plan Overview
The District will phase students back into school buildings gradually starting with elementary and high-needs students. Here is the basic framework of the plan:
Voluntary Reading Tutoring:
Will begin September 28 for Grades 1 & 2 students who opt in at selected schools based on equity of access and need Elementary Schools:
In-person classes will resume on October 19 for Pre-K – Grade 6 All students will attend school five days a week for 5.5 hours each day (no alphabet-based cohorts) The school day will begin at 9:30 a.m. for comprehensive elementary schools Self-Contained Special Education Programs:
Programs will resume in school buildings on October 19 for Pre-K – Grade 12 Middle School*:
In-person classes will resume for first-year middle school students on November 12-13. (Grade 6 or 7 depending on the school) November 12-13 will provide valuable transition time for first-year students In-person classes resume for all other middle school students on November 16 Special and Alternative schools with middle / high school students will resume November 16 All students will attend school five days a week for 5.5 hours each day The school day will begin at 8:45 a.m. for comprehensive middle schools * The four-week gap between Elementary and Middle School re-entry allows time to adjust to elementary school logistics and safety protocols, and will only occur if safety practices and viral conditions permit.
High School:
In-person classes will resume January 4, 2021 Coincides with the start of the second semester High school will continue with the quarter model All students will attend school five days a week for 5.5 hours each day The school day will begin at 8 a.m. for comprehensive high schools Special, Alternative, and Charter Schools:
Since charter and special/alternative schools often have a combination of elementary and secondary grade levels, specific re-entry dates may differ. A detailed list of schools and their re-entry dates will be forthcoming.
More Information to Follow
It is important to reiterate that this is an overview of the plan and that this plan not only impacts students and families, but teachers and administrators at each of our schools. The District understands there will be many questions about safely bringing students and educators back into buildings.
The District currently has working groups of administrators, teachers, and other staff members working through multiple topics including class size, staffing, substitute teachers, training on safety protocols and PPE requirements, COVID response procedures, busing, and food services. Training sessions will be provided prior to our return to address to our staff and parent needs.
New information will be forthcoming from the District and through school channels. The ASD website will be updated frequently with information pertaining to the school re-entry plan.
Thank you for your continued commitment to the education of EVERY ASD student.
~Anchorage School District

We identified the "guru" of the Communitarian Network, whose own writings tell us he was a terrorist, a soldier and now a planner in the Zionist takeover of British Palestine. I quickly understood why some Christians would never consider these facts, but I've been trying to understand why so many of the Americans actively opposing Agenda 21 and claiming to be on our "side" avoided discussing Communitarianism and its root philosophy, Zionism, for 13 years.
2020: Our Common Destiny & The Anti Communitarian Manifesto (ISBN-13: 978-0-9814519-2-3) explores the history, philosophy, and modern-day implementation of Sustainable Development, Communitarian Law, and Community Policing.
Part-autobiography, part-thesis, and part-guidebook to International Law, this 327-page book introduces Community Law with a mix of personal experiences, field research, and direct quotes from American presidents and international heads of state, domestic and foreign courts, officials, ecclesiastics, gurus, agencies, think tanks, universities and law schools, foundations, conferences, scientific reports, newspapers, and academic journals.
The Roosevelt Neighborhood Plan (Washington) and The Anchorage 2020/Anchorage Bowl Comprehensive Plan (Alaska) are highlighted to show how Local Agenda 21 plans balance individuals, laws, and economic growth. Readers are challenged to consider some of the little-known aspects of Community Economic Development, like mapping and mobilizing human assets, data-mining, innovative militarized policing, mandates for service, global citizenship, the Hegelian Dialectic, and the ancient spiritual foundation for a worldwide, corporate, quasi-religious legal framework.
Niki Raapana and Nordica Friedrich began publishing in 2000, after they were used as uninformed Human Subjects Research in Seattle, Washington. Their original analysis of Communitarianism reaches an international audience; their work has been referenced and reproduced in books, websites, articles, curriculums and academic papers, including the National Association of Scholars Bibliography of the Communitarian Residence Life Movement.”

2020.09.05 20:24 Infinite_Tourist Some Subreddit Numbers

I just wanted to toss some numbers out there to keep things in perspective, since the trolls appear to judge, for lack of a better word, "success" of anything by the number of "likes" or "members" groups and subreddits have on social media platforms.
I opened this Subreddit on July 25th in an effort to do away with the trolling, attacks, threats, and vitriol myself and others were being subjected to for simply organizing the Covid-19 data on /Anchorage. Since that time:
In the month of July beginning the 25th, the Subreddit had 5,883 pageviews
In the month of August, the Subreddit had 26,865 pageviews
In the five days so far for September, the Subreddit has had 2,214 pageviews
The past seven days have drawn 1,020 pageviews
This is why I still post the numbers. Not everyone out there wants to engage in some deep philosophical debate about the numbers, or politics. Most everyday run of the mill folk are simply looking for the bottom line without having to jump the hoops to get at the numbers. So long as their is an interest, they will be posted.
Do you like numbers?
If so, I'm looking for a person to come on board even if you've never moderated before. Generally, the Dashboards for the MOA and the State aren't very mobile-friendly, so you should have a desktop, laptop full browser such as Chrome. You should also be free to post the numbers in the time period between 10:30 am-Noon.
Don't have time during the week? How about Saturday and Sunday? If not, that's okay, the numbers will still be posted. We also don't need ten people. One will do.
Do keep in mind that you should probably have a posting and commenting history that isn't anti-COVID, anti-mask and nobody with a new account will be considered. I also highly recommend a willingness to turn off your Reddit accounts' ability to receive chat and personal messages. People are hateful and sick.
Finally:
If you see Alaska related Covid-19 news out there, please post it. Consolidating and curating, if you will, helps people, especially those who avoid the news in general. Our older population doesn't generally go hopping all over the internet and as some have told me, dislike dealing with the dashboard altogether.
If you're up for some social media abuse, hit the sidebar and shoot me a ModMail or leave a comment down below.
Be safe this holiday weekend. It would be nice to have no numbers to post.

2020.09.01 17:13 gdan95 Razorfist: Not responding to riots immediately is a bad move... unless Trump does it (June 4, 2020)

In a video on the Minneapolis protests and riots entitled "America Ablaze," Razor says at the 7:14 mark that Trump shouldn't have made an official statement on them as soon as possible, commending him for waiting a day or two.
However, when Joe Biden made a statement condemning the violent riots in Portland, Oregon that killed someone, Razor tweeted "Spilled toothpaste, meet tube."
So according to Razor, when Trump takes his time to respond, he's being smart, but when Biden does, it's too little too late.
Actually, while we're here, there are multiple rebuttals I could make on this matter. Trump and the section of the right wing that defends him have made multiple attempts to connect Biden to the riots. Let's run through them:
So to recap: hypocrisy, lies, and a lack of context. Par for the course, it seems.

2020.08.16 22:10 Ninstints CIRI Article

Alaska Native corporations have come a long way and matured a great deal in the three decades since they were created under the Alaska Native Claims Settlement Act of 1971, known as ANCSA. While many people say this act was an experiment in capitalism on a grand scale, it is important to stress that the designers of the experiment were Alaska’s indigenous people. What they sought—and achieved—was an act of self-determination.
ANCSA was the first real settlement between Native Americans and the federal government in which Natives were allowed to exercise self-determination. Previous treaties and settlements involved land and assets held in trust for Native people by the federal government and controlled by the Bureau of Indian Affairs. The 44 million acres of land and nearly $1 billion ANCSA granted to Alaska Natives were controlled by Native boards of directors of Native corporations.
Thirty years after their creation, Alaska Native corporations have become powerful economic engines with a profound effect on the Alaska economy. Business endeavors run the gamut in Alaska from real estate and natural resource development to construction, tourism, and retail operations. Additionally, many of the corporations have invested in a wide range of businesses outside Alaska. The corporations’ importance and influence continue to grow at an exponential rate, giving them a powerful political voice in the state. At the same time, the corporations concern themselves with the social needs of Alaska Natives, as well as their economic well-being.
Although Alaska Native corporations are businesses in every sense of the word, there are some unique differences between them and other corporations in Alaska. For one, the leaders of different regional corporations work together as a team in many arenas. The Association of ANCSA Regional Corporation Presidents/Chief Executive Officers was created to foster leadership and teamwork among Native leaders. As president and chief executive officer (CEO) of Cook Inlet Region, Inc. (CIRI), because I am so familiar with my fellow corporate leaders, I am intimately aware that although we are all Native corporations, the way we go about achieving Native goals and objectives differs.
CIRI has done extremely well over the years, in part because our board has focused on stability for the long term. Throughout most of our history, we have decided against paying out a large percentage of our capital to shareholders, despite sometimes fervent voices urging us to do just that. Other corporations have at times found this force among their shareholders to be immutable, and some directors have found themselves forced off their boards in favor of new directors who are less concerned about the growth of their corporation.
But despite this success, we at CIRI have had less time to focus on important issues like subsistence, which are so vital in other regions, such as the NANA Regional Corporation region in northwest Alaska, the Doyon Ltd. region in interior Alaska, and the Arctic Slope region. NANA and Doyon decided early on that creating jobs for shareholders was a high priority, and they have done a commendable job of doing just that. The Arctic Slope Regional Corporation (ASRC) has opted to focus on developing revenue, and they are succeeding as well.
I believe that all of our Alaska Native corporations are just now beginning to come into their own and that we’ll see a lot more success throughout Alaska as a result. In order to reach this point, many of us, as with most corporations in America, have had hard times. Sometimes there are economic factors beyond our control, but the true test of management is to work through the hard times and turn the losses around. My fellow CEOs work hard at achieving the very best for the Native people of Alaska, and while all of us are taking somewhat different paths toward that goal, we are all working to better Native people socially and economically. Knowing that gives me great respect for my fellow CEOs. The dignity they bring to their efforts has led to many remarkable success stories that are only beginning to be written throughout Alaska.
When I reflect upon the sweeping changes that have been made in Alaska’s political, economic, and social landscape as a result of ANCSA and the creation of Native corporations, I find myself turning to our Native elders. I appreciate their wisdom more and more, especially as I rapidly approach becoming an elder.
As Native corporations, we are expending an ever-increasing amount of energy on the spiritual well-being of our people. Our elders have taught us that we are part of something larger. This intangible quality makes it most difficult for non-Natives to understand just what it is that Native corporations are about. As ANCSA states, Native corporations were created as the embodiment of a desire to craft a settlement “in conformity with the real economic and social needs of Natives.”
Growing for the Future
In addition to the nearly 200 Alaska Native corporations in operation, dozens of Native organizations, nonprofit organizations, and other entities have emerged as a direct result of ANCSA. Altogether, these many entities provide a great deal of shelter to many people. The corporations created under ANCSA are looking to the long-term future in creating institutions that may live long after the corporations, including local housing authorities, health agencies, and other social service organizations; foundations which in many cases are generously endowed; and statewide facilities such as the Alaska Native Heritage Center.
At the same time, some Native corporations have been able to seize hold of key opportunities. ASRC was the first Native corporation to make the Forbes 500 list in the 1990s, after Sealaska was listed in the mid-1980s. CIRI, while smaller in gross revenues, has shown consistently strong earnings. Among Alaska businesses, Native corporations are likely the largest importers of profits to Alaska. Some of our biggest business enterprises are outside the state. But even while we do business in the Lower-48 states and throughout the world, we are committed to Alaska. We’ll bring the money back, wherever the profits are made.
Economic Impact
The Association of ANCSA Regional Corporation Presidents/CEOs for the last three years has sponsored a statewide survey and report on the overall economic impact of Native corporations on the state. The most recent report includes data from the year 2001 for the 13 regional corporations and 30 of the 168 village corporations operating in the state.
The report shows that Native corporations provide jobs, revenue, and commitment to the Alaska economy. Some key highlights for the 43 corporations surveyed include:
-Revenue of $2.9 billion and assets of $2.9 billion
-$52.1 million in dividends and $434 million in payroll (within Alaska) -Statewide employment of 13,062
-Alaska Native employment of 3,122
-$9.3 million donated to charitable organizations and $4.1 million distributed for scholarships to 2,821 recipients
-Such substantial contributions to charities in Alaska, as well as scholarships for Alaska Native students and dividends for Native corporation shareholders, provide a glimpse of the significant impact Native corporations have on the Alaska economy.
Of the 43 corporations included in the report, 13 were recognized in Alaska Business Monthly in October 2002 as among the state’s 49 most successful Alaskan businesses. The list was led by Arctic Slope Regional Corporation. Five Native regional corporations were in the top 10, and eight more Native regional and village corporations made the list.
The report notes that 2001 had mixed financial results for the corporations overall, but that it was a record year for CIRI. Net income was more than four times the previous year’s, driven largely by the sale of CIRI’s telecommunications investments with VoiceStream Wireless Corporation, which we viewed as a one-time home-run that we were able to pass on to our shareholders in special distributions of nearly $400 million total.
Total net income in 2001 for the 13 regional corporations was $455 million, which was offset by net losses of $36 million sustained by five of the corporations. The total equity in 2001 was $1.5 billion.
Working Locally
As we celebrate our successes, we cannot forget that despair continues to nip at the heels of many of our family members. Many Alaska Natives who work at CIRI volunteer their time to assist at Bean’s Café, a kitchen for the homeless in Anchorage, and many other charities throughout the city. But despite a vast improvement since 1971, many of the people who need these services are also Alaska Natives.
As Native corporation leaders, we continue to ask ourselves how the power and the profits of Native corporations can best be harnessed to empower our people and honor our cultures. When we look to the past, we see that Native leadership was instrumental in crafting ANCSA to create an act of self-determination. The goal was not to create reservations, but a new kind of business enterprise controlled in every way by Alaska Natives. The business enterprises so far created by the act have succeeded and are thriving. ANCSA has become the biggest minority success story of the nation. The act did not solve all the social problems of Alaska’s Native people, but it was never intended to solve all the problems.
As we look to the future, we can look to our cultural and traditional values and our elders for guidance. The leaders who crafted ANCSA wisely developed an evolving agreement, which has been amended many times and likely will be amended many more times. Those who will make the changes in the future will be Native people themselves—in acts of self-determination.
Carl H. Marrs is the chief executive officer of the Cook Inlet Region, Inc.

2020.07.24 01:01 assessment_bot [ Non-Fatal ] [ 07/05/2020 ] Cessna 180, Anchorage/ AK

On July 5, 2020, about 1130 Alaska daylight time, a Cessna 180C airplane, sustained substantial damage when it was involved in an accident at Lake Hood Airport (PALH), Anchorage, Alaska. The private pilot and one passenger were not injured. The airplane was operated as a Title 14 Code of Federal Regulations Part 91 personal flight.
According to the pilot, at the time of the accident, they were returning from a remote lake to PALH in their float-equipped airplane. The pilot stated that the departure from the remote lake was normal, with about 10 to 12 mph of wind on the lake creating a light chop on the water's surface, and no object was struck during the takeoff and departure. After a normal approach to PALH and just after touchdown the left float dug into the water and the airplane veered abruptly to the left, and it subsequently nosed over and began to sink. He stated that he and his passenger were able to quickly exit the partially submerged, sinking wreckage.
An airport security camera captured the accident sequence, revealing that shortly after the airplane's floats touched down on the water surface, a large water column sprays outboard of the left float, just forward of the float's step. The airplane then veers abruptly to the left, and the right wing strikes the water, and then it veers sharply to the right, followed by another veer to the left, before it violently nosed over and began to sink.
An initial postaccident examination of the left float revealed a large hole in the bottom of the float just forward of the step. (see figure 1). Corrosion was present around the hole and no impact signatures were present on the bottom of the float.
